Inner Moonlight is the monthly poetry series and podcast at The Wild Detectives in Dallas. In its current iteration, I curate a live poetry show at 7:30PM CST the second Wednesday of every month at The Wild Detectives backyard. Each show features one brilliant writer for reading and conversation, followed by a brief open mic. I record the live show to release as podcast episodes, available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and most places folks get their podcasts. Texas Monthly recommends y’all take a listen.

HISTORY
Inner Moonlight launched at The Wild Detectives during National Poetry Month in April 2018. For two years, the monthly reading included two carefully paired poets, followed by a brief open mic. We celebrated our first anniversary in April 2019 with a poetry party, presenting a huge line up of featured poets from our first year. Our final in-person show for this iteration of Inner Moonlight was in March 2020. We celebrated our second anniversary in April 2020 with a series of videos by poets featured in year two.
Because of the ongoing pandemic, Inner Moonlight was on hiatus for seven months. In December of 2020, the show returned as an interview-style podcast, and I released monthly episodes through October 2021. Each episode features one writer for reading and conversation. The podcast format gave me the chance to reach writers beyond DFW and time to ask all of my incredibly nerdy questions. As the archive of episodes grew, and as people found the show and returned to past episodes, I got particularly invested in documenting the exciting work of writers in accessible ways. Texas Monthly honored the heck out of me when they recommended us, and seemed to totally understand our mission. They had this to say:
“Hosted by West Texas–bred Logen Cure (her latest collection, Welcome to Midland, is forthcoming from Dallas-based Deep Vellum in August), Inner Moonlight is at once sharp and soothing. Each episode consists of a dialogue between Cure and ‘one brilliant writer,’ and each generally opens with her asking her guest to ‘Tell me something good.’ The show is mindful of foregrounding writers of underrepresented ages, genders, and ethnicities, but also of various schools of form and rhythm. There’s something for a listener of any lyric persuasion to love.”
We returned to The Wild Detectives backyard in November of 2021, which brings us to the current iteration of Inner Moonlight. Now, the second Wednesday of every month, I feature one writer for reading and conversation. I record the live performances and release them as podcast episodes. We also do a brief open mic, which is super fun and always an adventure. The open mic is not recorded. I am so stoked to keep bringing y’all work from incredible writers.
